Pappu Yadav Defends Saffron Protest Amid Death Threats and FIRs

Shillong: Independent MP Pappu Yadav is fighting back. The Purnia lawmaker defended his decision to wear saffron robes during a Friday protest at the Parliament complex. Opposition leaders staged a skit near Makar Dwar to highlight alleged theft of donations meant for the Ayodhya Ram Temple. Yadav used the costume to symbolize the embezzlement of funds while others, including Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, placed money into donation boxes. Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad also joined the demonstration.

Varanasi police registered an FIR against Gandhi, Yadav, and Prasad on Saturday. Seers claim the act insulted Sanatan Dharma. Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaurav Banswal confirmed the charges include sections 196, 299, 302 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Yadav scoffed at the accusations. "Where is the insult here? I neither abused anyone nor spoke against anyone," he told IANS. He noted he did not name the BJP, RSS, or any specific religious figure.

Protests erupted in response. Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal activists clashed with police in Bhopal while trying to march toward Link Road. Meanwhile, Yadav faces grave personal danger. He reported receiving international death threats and claimed goons are calling for his death. Delhi police registered a separate FIR on Sunday regarding an attack on a house where his children were staying. Investigators are now looking into the incident under sections 221, 121(1), 132 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
