Outcry Grows Over Alleged Assault of Minor in Medziphema

Kohima: Multiple community groups are demanding justice following the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl in Medziphema town on July 7. The incident occurred at a residence in Tsiepuoru Colony, Ward 9. Law enforcement identified the accused as Pauminlun Gangte, also referred to as Puomilun Lulun Kuki, a retired Army personnel.

Organizations including the Chakhroma Women Organisation, the Chümoukedima District Gorkha Union, and the Medziphema Town Women Organization expressed shock. The Kuki Community Medziphema Town labeled the act inhuman. They declared that the accused has no place within the community or the colony. The Chakhroma Students’ Union praised the police for their prompt arrest of the accused.

The All Nagaland Gorkha Students' Union thanked Gaon Bura Abou-u Kuotsu for his rapid response in helping to lodge a formal police complaint. The union stated the official's leadership provided a "beacon of hope for justice" for the victim.

Advocacy groups are pushing for a swift, impartial investigation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. The Medziphema Town Women Organization explicitly demanded that the court deny bail to the accused. They urged the government to provide the survivor with immediate medical, psychological, and legal support. Several groups warned the public to protect the victim’s identity and stop spreading rumors. They remain committed to monitoring the upcoming legal proceedings.
