Kohima: Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection officials gathered at Don Bosco School in Kohima this Tuesday. They held an awareness event titled Safe Products, Confident Consumer to train students on market standards. Participants focused on turning students into smart, informed buyers.
Limatoshi Jamir, the department head, pushed for greater public knowledge. He noted that confident consumers remain rare, especially in rural pockets. He told students to check labels and quality before they spend money. Jamir believes a society thrives when people recognize their own rights and responsibilities.
Lawyer Sunjib Rana joined the session to break down the Consumer Protection Act of 2019. He told the crowd, "The legislation empowered consumers and safeguarded their rights." Rana urged the students to demand safe goods and seek help if they spot unfair trade practices. He wants every buyer to choose freely and stay sharp.
The department keeps running these sessions across local schools and groups. Shiekhozo, an assistant controller, explained how the agency enforces standards and hunts down bad business tactics. They keep the scales honest and handle public grievances. The program opened with a welcome from principal Fr. Panmei Innocent Liangkamang and featured Inspector Silo Jemu as the event chair.
