Imphal: The Eastern Flank of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim split from the group's Hebron-based leadership this week. Rebels met at Mt. Horeb Camp in Myanmar on July 21. They formed a new provisional government led by Ikato I. Chishi Swu. He is the son of the group's former chairman, Isak Chishi Swu.
Lt. Gen. (Retd.) H.S. Ramsan chaired the emergency meeting. The faction intends to rescue the movement from its current state. They claimed the new government seeks to protect the principles of the group's founders. Other leaders include Victor Angami, A. Raman, Detail Dani, and Angyo Jacob Jingseya. Advisors include Ngaranmi Jagoi, Merry Ramson, and Rev. Vitovi Yeputho.
The split follows the recent expulsion of several senior commanders by Thuingaleng Muivah. The Eastern Flank declared those expulsions null and void. They argued the move was meant to force a piecemeal solution to the Naga political issue. The faction stated, "The spirit of the ceasefire agreement has ceased to exist."
They rejected the Competencies submitted to the Indian government. The rebels claimed these deals violate the group's constitution, the Yehzabo. They accused Muivah of failing to act on his November 7, 2024 warning regarding armed resistance. The faction vowed to maintain both political and militant pressure. Security experts warn this rivalry creates a second power center, complicating ongoing peace negotiations with New Delhi.
