Kohima: Northeastern police forces are readying a joint crackdown on regional drug syndicates. The new strategy goes live in ten days. Nagaland Director General of Police Rupin Sharma confirmed the move on Friday.
Top cops and anti-narcotics chiefs from every state in the northeast met to draft the plan. They aim to seal state borders against smugglers. "In the past two weeks, all the DGPs of North East states and the anti-narcotics task force heads have come together. We are trying to develop a common concerted strategy for checking drug trafficking," Sharma said.
Traffickers moving between Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam will soon face multi-state surveillance. The agencies plan to share intelligence to catch dealers at every turn. Police expect this synchronized effort to choke off supply lines.
Sharma noted that stopping drug abuse takes more than police work. He called for total social participation. Meanwhile, Nagaland police are ramping up tech investments. They plan to install facial recognition software and CCTV in major towns to bolster women’s safety. Sharma urged citizens to report all sexual assault cases to help build trust in law enforcement.
