Agartala: A North Tripura family is celebrating the return of Biprajit Das, who has finally come home after being missing for 32 years. Das vanished in 1994 at age 14, sparking a desperate search by his father, Bijoy Das, and leading to a missing person report at the Panisagar Police Station. Despite years of searching across several states, the family eventually lost hope, a heartbreak compounded when Das's mother passed away four years ago.

Das returned to his native Pekuchhara village this week after deciding it was time to reconnect with his roots. He explained that after leaving home as a boy, he worked in Assam, Mumbai, and eventually settled in Patiala, Punjab. He currently lives in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand, where he works as a driver. He admitted that fear and the sheer passage of time kept him away for decades, though he eventually felt an overwhelming urge to return to his family.

The reunion was nearly missed when Bijoy Das failed to recognize his middle-aged son. The father only confirmed his son's identity after spotting a specific childhood scar on his forehead. Describing the emotional impact of the encounter, the family and local community gathered to welcome him home. Reflecting on his long absence, Das said, "I feel grateful and emotional to be reunited with my father and two sisters after more than three decades."

While his command of the Bengali language has faded after spending most of his life outside Tripura, Das plans to stay in his village to rebuild his relationship with his family. The story of his return has drawn hundreds of visitors to the Das household, turning a decades-old mystery into a local celebration.
