Kohima: The administration in Nagaland's Noklak district is set to ban single-use plastic items starting June 5. This move aims to curb environmental damage and follows directives from the state's Urban Development Department.

The restriction applies to all plastic carry bags, regardless of their size, color, or thickness. It also covers single-use plastic bottles for soft drinks and water that have a capacity of less than one liter. All local vendors, businesses, and organizations must stop using, selling, or storing these items immediately.

Officials plan to conduct regular inspections to ensure the rules are followed. Those caught violating the ban face a fine of 10,000 rupees for a first offense and 20,000 rupees for a second. Persistent offenders risk losing their trade licenses or permits.

Local authorities are encouraging residents to shift toward sustainable habits by using cloth bags, jute bags, and reusable water containers instead. The administration has asked for public support to help make the town a cleaner and more environmentally conscious place.
