Kohima: Nagaland officials opened a new CiTY BARN youth health center in Mokokchung on June 29. Located near the SBI Bazaar branch on I.M. Road, this site serves as the fifth facility of its kind in the state. The project targets individuals under 24 years of age. It provides health information, confidential counseling, and support services.
Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma inaugurated the space. He noted that national health authorities are tracking this model for potential expansion across the country. Verma said the center is a unique innovation, adding that "Mokokchung was fortunate to have such a centre."
The Care and Support Society manages the center under the direction of the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society. Local medical officials plan to use this office to combat rising HIV infection rates among young people. The staff will also address substance abuse, mental health, and sexual health.
Operating hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the summer and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the winter. The center offers on-site testing for HIV, Hepatitis, and Syphilis. It also acts as a bridge to other medical facilities for TB treatment and rehabilitation.
The group behind the center signed a deal with Tovra Works to link health support with career training. The program aims to provide students with skills and job placement opportunities. The local medical department pledged its full support for the initiative.
