NEEPCO readies Doyang Dam gate release as water levels rise

Kohima: Heavy rain is pushing water levels up at the Doyang Reservoir. The Dam and Spillway Division at the Doyang Hydro Power Station reported the water hit EL 319.50 meters at 6:00 AM on July 22. NEEPCO Ltd operates the facility. The dam is filling fast.

If the rain continues, the reservoir will hit its full capacity of EL 324.00 meters. Officials plan to open the radial gates once the water reaches EL 321.00 meters to stop an overflow. This controlled release will send excess water downstream through the Doyang River past the power house.

The Deputy General Manager of the power station issued a formal warning to the public. He told everyone to stop swimming, fishing, or bathing in the river near the dam during this time. The advisory stated, "All concerned are requested to stay away from the river and remain vigilant."
