Kohima: The Land Owners' Union at the Doyang Hydro Power Station issued a final warning to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation. They want action on jobs and infrastructure. The union sent a letter to the Managing Director after years of broken promises. They referenced an initial communication from August 31, 2026, noting that the corporation ignored previous commitments. Ancestral land acquisition destroyed local livelihoods. The project continues to operate while families face economic ruin.
The union demands a special recruitment drive for Grade-IV posts based on the February 28, 1984 agreement. They want local security guards hired and qualified residents placed in teaching roles at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya. Exams for Junior Engineer roles in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical fields must happen on-site with preference for affected families. They also require the Finance and Accounts wing to return to its original location. The group wants additional infrastructure funding beyond the 2026-27 budget. The union gave NEEPCO seven days starting September 24 to comply.
Failure to meet these demands by 5 pm on October 1 will trigger protests. The union plans sit-ins and operational disruptions. "The union would initiate what it described as democratic and peaceful forms of action," the group stated. President Proland Ezung and general secretary Sorenthung Patton signed the document. They warned that NEEPCO management owns the consequences of any future financial losses or project delays.
