Kohima: Nagaland University's School of Agricultural Sciences held a workshop on Artificial Intelligence in Medziphema on August 22. The event operated under the ICAR Tribal Sub Plan. Prof. Akali Sema coordinated the session while Dr. Mary N. Odyuo served as the principal investigator alongside co-investigators Dr. Debika Nongmaithem and Dr. Sentirenla. Damaso Digital Solutions Pvt. Ltd. facilitated the training to show students how technology shapes modern farming.
AI drives everything now. The curriculum covered machine learning, generative AI, computer vision, predictive analytics, automation, and agentic AI. These tools now manage crop monitoring, disease detection, precision irrigation, soil analysis, and supply chain logistics. Students explored career paths in drone mapping, GIS, AgriTech product development, and digital extension services.
Tech needs human brains. Experts warned that technical proficiency cannot replace critical thinking, empathy, or ethics. Leaders told students to remain skeptical of machine outputs. "Students to become AI ready rather than merely technology dependent," the organizers noted. Participants practiced building visions for a high-tech farm in 2035 using robotics and smart water management systems. The training focused on blending traditional agricultural expertise with emerging digital capabilities.
