Kohima: Nagaland University inked deals with two Japanese agricultural firms to launch one-year internships for students. The signings took place July 22 at the School of Agricultural Sciences in Medziphema. Students from the Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development will head to Japan for 12 months. They will learn modern farming and professional work standards.
Agreements were finalized with Kumugai Farm Co., Ltd. in Tokushima Prefecture and Hagumi Farm Co., Ltd. in Kochi Prefecture. Prof. J. Longkumer, the nodal officer for the program, chaired the ceremony. University officials and government representatives gathered to mark the start of the collaboration.
Dean Pauline Alila opened the event. She spoke of mutual trust and international growth. "This collaboration reflects our common aspiration for innovation and knowledge exchange," she stated. The program counts toward academic credits at the university.
Takeo Kumagai of Kumugai Farm and Yamamoto Seiya of Hagumi Farm joined the talks. Both firms see this as a long-term link. They want to move beyond internships into research and technology transfer. Prof. Dipak Sinha, Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Medziphema Campus, closed the session. He encouraged future joint research and potential online training modules for students. The Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland helped facilitate the pacts.
