Pranab College Marks 35th Anniversary with Freshers Social

Kohima: Pranab College in Dimapur hosted its 35th annual function and freshers social on September 29, 2026. Dr. Santosh Kumar, the college principal, opened the event by framing the day as a celebration of the institution’s history and the start of a new chapter for the student body. The college recognized top performers with prestigious awards. Ihecile Siang took home the Shyama Prasad Mukerjee Award for academic excellence, while Kedarai Chewang received the Deendayal Upadhyaya Award for extra-curricular efforts. Veronica K. Yeptho earned the Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay Award for social responsibility.

Academic high achievers also received recognition for their Nagaland University rankings. Sociology student Ihchile Siang grabbed a top 5 spot, Pushpa Kumari from Commerce placed 7th, and Rishita Das of Political Science finished 10th. Shenok Chetpa Konyak, a 5th-semester political science student, claimed the Best Library User Award for the 2025-26 cycle.

Chief Guest and Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang released the college magazine, Pranab Vision, and launched PortalZ. This new online hub provides students with 24-hour access to vital academic resources. Dr. Chang pushed the students to aim high. He said, "success should not be viewed merely as an individual achievement but as a holistic achievement that should ultimately contribute to the betterment of society."

The program featured Konyak folk songs and speeches from student leaders Mughapu Swu and Bachong Phom. Judges Imjungwatila Longkumer, Haisui Meru, and Shikna Konyak oversaw the evening’s talent showcase. Dinoka Achumi was crowned Mr. Freshers, and Menjei Konyak took the title of Miss Fresher 2026. Subtitle winners included Menjei Konyak, Zuzuveh Lupu, Watimongba, Paudilung Domta, Neilhao Konyak, and Niloka Achumi.
