Gangtok: Sikkim’s Education Department is joining forces with Google. The state aims to boost digital skills across its higher education system. They signed a formal Statement of Intent to launch the Google AI Educator Series for college faculty.

The training will hit 15 government technical and higher education colleges along with Khangchendzonga State University. Teachers will learn to use Google’s latest AI tools. They will then build these technologies into their classroom instruction to update teaching methods. Education Minister Raju Basnet said, "the need to use emerging technologies to strengthen Sikkim’s education system" is a priority for the state.

This program seeks to build digital capabilities among staff. It prepares educators for the fast shift toward machine learning in the classroom. Principal Secretary Sandeep Tambe attended the meeting alongside Special Secretary Ujjwal Rai and Joint Director Tshering Yangchen Bhutia. Google representatives were also present to finalize the deal.
