Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inked a deal this week with Cooperl, the French pork processing giant. The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the French Embassy in New Delhi. This moves to overhaul the state's pig industry. Pig farming drives the local economy. It sits at the heart of rural life in Nagaland.

Cooperl is headquartered in Lamballe, Brittany. It brings significant technical muscle to the region. The partnership aims to boost the sector via scientific breeding and modern livestock management. Officials plan to train farmers, veterinarians, and technical staff. They will also build a facility to protect indigenous pig breeds.

Rio stated, "We are encouraged that this partnership will invest in training and educating our farmers, veterinarians, and technical professionals, while also establishing a Centre dedicated to protecting and promoting Nagaland's indigenous pig breeds, balancing innovation with conservation."

The Chief Minister thanked French Ambassador to India Thierry Mathou for the support. He marked the occasion by sending greetings to France for La Fête Nationale. This collaboration builds on previous ties. France acted as the partner country for the 2025 Hornbill Festival. Rio expects more joint ventures in the future. He promised to keep the state open to international investment and innovation.
