Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced a new deal with Cooperl, the French pork processing giant. The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding this Monday. Rio called the agreement the beginning of a landmark partnership. He added that it relies on mutual trust and shared goals. Cooperl operates out of Lamballe, Brittany, as a top agricultural cooperative.
Rio reached out to French Ambassador to India Thierry Mathou to thank him and the Cooperl team. The Chief Minister also sent holiday greetings to France for La Fête Nationale. He noted that the French values of liberty, equality, and fraternity still inspire nations everywhere. Rio stated, "The partnership with Cooperl would provide an opportunity to modernise the sector through scientific breeding and adoption of best practices."
Nagaland remains one of India’s biggest pig-rearing states. Farming pigs ties directly into the local culture and rural economy. The project will train farmers, veterinarians, and technical staff. A dedicated centre will open to protect and promote indigenous pig breeds. This facility aims to keep innovation in check with conservation needs.
The state previously hosted France as a partner for the 2025 Hornbill Festival. Rio expects more joint ventures across other sectors soon. The government promised to build a stable environment for international investment. They want to drive sustainable development through these global ties.
