Kohima: Street vendors in Nagaland secured 6,394 loans worth 10.52 crore under the PM SVANidhi scheme as of June 27. Officials confirmed these figures at a recent press event in Kohima. Banks have approved 6,511 loans so far. This hits half the state's target of 13,000 loans by 2030.
Petevilie Khatsu, the State Mission Director, tracks this progress. He noted that 3,861 vendors have already paid back their loans on time. This shows strong repayment discipline across the state. Two hundred bank branches currently facilitate these payouts.
Technical gaps remain a major challenge. Vendors struggle when Aadhaar cards lack links to current phone numbers. Poor internet connections in remote areas and a lack of local bank branches further complicate access. Eight towns, including Tizit and Shamator, have yet to register a single loan. Khatsu said, "Achieving 50% of our target is a good start, but we have more work to do."
The government plans to host local camps to fix mobile linkage issues. Officials want to shrink the gap in the eight towns currently left behind. The program aims to boost financial independence for local entrepreneurs. Khatsu urged eligible vendors to sign up for the initiative.
