Nagaland Pushes MSME Growth Through New Tech Partnerships

Kohima: Nagaland officials gathered in Kohima on June 26 to celebrate World MSME Day. Advisor for Industries and Commerce Hekani Jakhalu praised local business owners for driving the state economy. She emphasized that the government continues to back enterprises through direct interventions. Entrepreneurs need to prioritize UDYAM registration to access these benefits.

The state government signed a formal agreement with T Works to bring expert guidance to local companies. This move aims to modernize Naga businesses while keeping the human element front and center. Jakhalu warned that technology cannot replace the personal drive behind local commerce. "The agreement sends a strong message that the government is committed to bringing the best expertise for Naga MSMEs," she said.

Deputy Secretary Chonpenthung Ezung noted that MSMEs make up 30 percent of the national GDP. He pushed for stronger branding for indigenous products under the Naturally Nagaland initiative. Currently, over 2,000 state enterprises hold UDYAM registration. The state plans to organize artisans and cooperatives into formal brands to reach wider markets.

NIDC Chairman Kvulo Lorin detailed the progress of the RAMP scheme. Since its August 2024 launch, the program has reached 49,000 businesses and trained 35,000 entrepreneurs. Workshops have spread across rural blocks and remote districts. Officials highlighted the success of local firms like HillCraft Co and Karmel Timber as proof that these programs work for the local workforce.
