Kohima: Nagaland officials visited Don Bosco School in Kohima on Tuesday to teach students how to shop smart. The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection hosted the event to highlight the need for safer products and confident buyers.
Limatoshi Jamir, the department head, urged students to check all mandatory labels before buying anything. He noted that rural areas still struggle with a lack of consumer confidence. He told the crowd, "You must know what is right and what is wrong. Find out by yourself what is the best thing for you."
Advocate Sunjib Rana explained that the Consumer Protection Act of 2019 exists to back buyers when companies cut corners. He told the students to reject defective goods and seek legal help if they get ripped off. Assistant Controller Shiekhozo added that his department is actively policing scales and weights to stop shops from cheating the public.
Fr. Panmei Innocent Liangkamang, the school principal, linked these habits to broader justice. He noted that when people stay alert, the whole society benefits. Responsible shoppers check, think, and question before they pay.
