Kohima: Nagaland marked the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Friday by launching a statewide push for a drug-free future. Department of Social Welfare Director Tosheli Zhimomi led a crowd at the Capital Convention Hall in Kohima through a formal oath under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan campaign.
Participants committed to personal and community sobriety. The pledge stated, "Today, we unite under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and take a pledge that not only the community, family, friends but also ourselves will be drug-free, because change should start with ourselves."
Advisor for Social Welfare Wangpang Konyak confirmed the government is doubling down on enforcement. The state plans to tighten border monitoring and open more de-addiction centers. The government declared a formal war on drugs to protect the next generation. Officials admitted the state remains a vulnerable transit point for traffickers due to its international borders.
Konyak insisted that police cannot win this fight alone. He demanded a massive, multi-layered alliance between church leaders, civil society groups, and families to shield youth from addiction. He also tasked educators with turning schools into safe havens. During the event, the Mima village council received the Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyaan award for local infrastructure and nutrition success.
