Kohima: Nurses and psychiatrists across Nagaland finished a three-day palliative care training program on June 27. The National Programme for Palliative Care hosted the event in Dimapur to bolster services throughout the state. It started on June 25. Dr. Imnapokim, the State Programme Officer, led the final session to distribute certificates to those who completed the coursework.

Experts flew in to teach the classes. The lineup included instructors from ELNEC USA, AIIMS New Delhi, AIIMS Jodhpur, and the Dr. B. Borooah Cancer Institute. They drilled the staff on pain management, patient communication, and psychosocial support. The sessions emphasized the need for a holistic approach when dealing with patients.

Trainers praised the students for their high energy throughout the event. "The participants pledged to apply the knowledge gained in their respective health facilities," the organizers noted. This training marks a push by the directorate of Health and Family Welfare to lift the standard of compassionate care in local clinics and hospitals.
