Kohima: Nagaland Tourism and Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along took to social media to highlight flaws in digital verification. He posted a video on X capturing a Naga man struggling through a mandatory iris scan for KYC services. The footage shows multiple attempts to capture the scan while observers manually hold the man's eyes open. The scene ends in collective laughter.

Technical gaps exist in these systems. Standardized biometric parameters often fail to account for physical variations across diverse groups. Following the video, commenters pushed for flexibility in authentication. One user wrote, "Alternative methods" should be created when people face such problems. Critics argued that citizens should not lose access to services based on biological traits.

Along is known for using comedy to dismantle stereotypes about Northeast Indians. He previously turned attention toward the size of his own eyes in 2022. During that event, he joked that smaller eyes keep out dust and aid in napping through long meetings. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the viral clip at the time, noting that Along was "in full form." Along retorted that while his eyes are small, he remains "always pose ready" for the camera.

This latest stunt questions if India should adopt systems from other Asian countries to improve accuracy. The minister continues to use his platform to push for more inclusive technology.
