Kohima: Nagaland officials are pushing hard to finish the house listing phase of the 2027 Census. Administrators across the state met this week to iron out details and demand accuracy from field teams. The house listing work began July 1 and ends July 30. A second phase follows in February 2027.
Dr. Kenei Miachieo, the state director of census operations, toured Meluri to inspect the progress. He warned that poor data now ruins later stages. He told charge officers to work with sincerity and diligence, noting that "quality data collected during the first phase of the census would form the foundation for subsequent stages."
District leaders are hustling to keep the project on track. Meetings occurred in Dimapur, Chumoukedima, Niuland, and Chiephobozou. Officials there are leaning on local councillors and Gaon Buras to get the public on board. They need residents to open their doors and provide honest answers to enumerators.
Niuland Deputy Commissioner T. L. Kiusumong Tikhir cleared the air on common rumors. He stressed that the census is strictly for population counting. It has nothing to do with Aadhaar, PAN cards, or election rolls. Rules dictate that people living in a location for over six months get counted at their current home, not their native village.
Supervisors are now conducting random field checks to catch mistakes early. They are using specialized sketch maps for every ward and colony. The pressure is on to finish the count on time while sticking to official rules.
