Nagaland health teams use motorbikes to bypass rough terrain

Kohima: The Nagaland State AIDS Control Society is using motorcycles to reach patients in remote corners of the state. These outreach coordinators carry HIV kits and medical supplies across tough terrain where cars cannot go.

Poor roads and lack of public transport often cut off isolated villages from basic care. The program aims to bridge this gap. "In the remote villages of Nagaland, where the absence of motorable roads and public transport limits access to routine HIV services, Nagaland SACS is ensuring healthcare reaches those who need it most through Health on Bike – Reaching the Unreached," the agency stated.

Staff provide HIV testing, ART, and screenings for TB and STIs. They also distribute condoms and harm reduction supplies. The team insists that no geography should block access to medicine. They are determined to serve every community. As the group noted, "Where the terrain is tough, hope rides on two wheels."
