Kohima: Nagaland Health Minister P. Paiwang Konyak wants more cash from the central government. He pushed for better health infrastructure at the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare in New Delhi on June 29. The state needs upgrades across all health levels before the first batch of MBBS graduates arrives in 2028.
Construction in the hills costs more. Paiwang proposed new region-specific costing under central schemes to cover these heavy logistics expenses. He also told officials that the current National Health Mission funding formula relies too much on population size. He argued for extra weight on terrain, remoteness, and the basic cost of keeping services running.
Paiwang thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda for their current support. He asked Nadda to address these funding gaps to ensure fairness for remote states. He stated, "I expressed confidence that the conference would strengthen India’s collective commitment towards building a more resilient, inclusive and equitable healthcare system, while thanking the Ministry and participating states and union territories for their continued partnership."
The state remains dedicated to hitting Sustainable Development Goal 3 targets. Ministers from across the country attended the session. The group aims to build a tougher health network.
