Kohima: The Political Affairs Committee of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee met in Kohima on Thursday. They pushed for immediate results on three pressing state issues. Members want the government to quit dragging its feet on peace agreements and border deals.
The committee blasted the Union and state governments for failing to honor the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position. They also called out the state government for asking for a new political interlocutor. They believe this move ignores previous progress. The committee stated the demand for a new official "will only turn the clock back to where it started."
Tensions also simmer over the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority. The committee branded the delay in setting up this body as unacceptable. Both the state and Union governments must take the blame for the fallout in regions represented by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organisation.
Finally, the group addressed the fresh deal to restart oil and gas drilling along the state's border. While they agree that the state needs the cash, they refuse to be kept in the dark. They demanded full transparency on the signed memorandum. Any move that compromises land ownership or state revenue will face stiff resistance.
