Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has welcomed the formal approval of the NDPP and NPF merger by the Election Commission of India. This development confirms the NPF as a single unified party, as the former NDPP ceases to exist as an independent political entity. Rio described this transition as a golden period for the organization and encouraged party workers to focus on serving the Naga people.

Speaking at a ticket distribution ceremony for the 2026 Town Council bye-elections, Rio expressed his satisfaction with returning to what he considers his original political home. He emphasized that the NPF serves as the primary guardian of Naga rights and dignity. He urged all party members to prioritize the public interest over personal ambitions and to remain strictly faithful to the party constitution.

NPF secretary general and MLA Achumbemo Kikon confirmed that all legal formalities regarding the merger are complete. The party introduced three official candidates for the upcoming urban local body elections: Neichüu Kuotsu for Chümoukedima, Shikavi Kiba for Atoizu, and Ar. Aling Lotha for Wokha. Working president Pusazo Loruo administered the oath of office to these candidates, while the event concluded with calls for unity and disciplined commitment to the party goals.
