Kohima: Nagaland is looking to grow its aromatic crop sector. Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along and Science and Technology Advisor Küzholüzo Nienu met with Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi to outline a plan for lavender expansion. The state wants to adopt the successful Purple Revolution model from Jammu and Kashmir.
Pilot lavender projects kicked off in Zunheboto back in 2022. Dr. Singh praised these early efforts. He noted, "Experience gained from the pilot initiative could help develop a scalable roadmap for expanding similar farmer-centric interventions to other suitable districts of the State, creating higher incomes, rural enterprises and value-added opportunities."
The plan involves more than just planting seeds. Officials want to send a team to study farming practices in Jammu and Kashmir. They will look at scientific methods, market connections, and quality planting materials. Technology is the key. Nagaland hopes to use its natural advantages to boost the local economy.
The talks also covered broader science goals. Both sides discussed bringing more Department of Science and Technology schemes to the state. They want to strengthen research in universities and help local startups. Innovation matters here. By linking research institutions with state agencies, Nagaland hopes to create sustainable jobs for rural youth and farmers.
