Kohima: The Naga Students Federation wants an independent probe into violence between Naga and Kuki groups in Manipur. They sent a memo to the President of India on July 9. The group demands the government scrap or review the Suspension of Operations pact with Kuki militant groups. They claim these militants repeatedly violated the deal.
A 27-member delegation spent days in Southern Nagalim this June. They talked to locals and visited conflict zones. Their findings cover incidents from March 2023 through June 2026. The report details kidnapping, torture, and the killing of six Naga civilians. It calls the violence a sustained pattern rather than random acts.
The group points to land encroachment and illegal poppy farming as drivers of the fighting. They also want a separate inquiry into how security forces handle the conflict. They seek better safety for civilians on National Highway-202.
The Federation insists that military power alone will not solve the issue. They maintain that "peace cannot be sustained solely through the deployment of armed forces." Only honest political dialogue and justice will end the unrest, the report says.
