Kohima: Naga residents flooded the Old MLA Hostel Junction in Kohima on July 9 for a candlelight vigil. They gathered to honor six Naga men abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13 and later killed. Their bodies were found on June 10. The Naga Students Federation organized the event to demand accountability for the brutal murders.
NSF President Mteisuding Heraang addressed the crowd with raw defiance. He warned that Naga patience is wearing thin. “Today, we are not gathered here with fear or weakness. We are gathered here to show the unity of the Naga people,” he declared. The Federation later submitted a formal memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu via Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav. They seek a time-bound, independent investigation into the torture and killings.
The NSF recently completed a mission to Southern Nagalim between June 4 and June 6, 2026. A 27-member team documented widespread displacement, property destruction, and insecurity. Their official report demands the Government of India review or terminate the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant groups. They claim these groups exploit the pact to commit human rights abuses with total impunity.
Nagaland Tribal Hohos Coordination Committee convenor Thejao Vihienuo also spoke at the vigil. He urged Kuki leadership to abandon a path of treachery and hatred. The NSF remains steadfast in its mission. They refuse to accept the current violence as a new normal. The organization will continue to pressure both the Manipur government and the Centre until the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
