Kohima: The Naga Students Federation (NSF) held a candlelight vigil in Kohima on Thursday to honor six Naga men abducted from Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village on May 13. Their bodies were discovered on June 10. The group demanded accountability for the murders.
Nagaland Tribal Hohos Coordination Committee convenor Thejao Vihienuo addressed the crowd. He claimed the victims were killed for simply being peace-loving Nagas. He described the murders as brutal, stating that the incident reflected what “the Kukis” intended to do to every Naga. He urged Kuki leaders to abandon violence and avoid leaving a legacy of hatred.
NSF president Mteisuding Heraang criticized both the Manipur government and the Centre. He warned that Naga patience has limits. The federation submitted a formal memorandum to the President of India via the Nagaland Governor. They want the perpetrators caught and prosecuted.
Heraang told reporters the NSF expects the government to provide a clear timeline for the investigation. He emphasized that the group has not set a deadline but insists on a thorough legal process. The federation sent copies of their appeal to various human rights groups and international agencies.
