Kohima: Naga demonstrators filled the Old MLA Hostel Junction in Kohima on Thursday. They held a candlelight vigil for six Naga civilians abducted, tortured, and killed in Manipur. The Naga Students Federation organized the event to demand accountability from the government.
Federation leaders submitted a formal memorandum to the President of India through the Nagaland Governor. It documents widespread violence and displacement following a field mission conducted in June 2026. The group is now pushing for an independent investigation into all reported killings and attacks.
NSF President Mteisuding addressed the crowd with raw intensity. "Today, we are not gathered here with fear or weakness. We are gathered here to show the unity of the Naga people," he said. He warned that while Nagas advocate for peace, their patience is wearing thin.
The memorandum demands the government review or scrap the Suspension of Operations agreement with Kuki militant groups. Speakers at the rally blamed these groups for the violence. They urged both state and central authorities to protect Naga villages and secure strategic transport routes immediately. The Federation also requested an inquiry into the operational role of security forces within the conflict zones.
