Aizawl: Mizoram Police crushed a major smuggling ring this week. Officers arrested six people and seized narcotics, wildlife parts, and illicit areca nuts. Total haul hit Rs 4 crore.

The Champhai Police Special Task Force led the charge. They pulled over a Bolero Maxx on July 7. Inside, they found 210 kg of dehydrated manta ray gill plates. This stash carries a black market price of Rs 2.30 crore. The police statement noted that this is "one of the biggest wildlife-related seizures ever made in Mizoram." Rajiv Hussein Laskar and Jinuk Uddin Laskar now face forest officials for legal action.

Aizawl District Special Branch joined the Assam Rifles for a separate hit. They caught 19-year-old Marcus Lalvenpuia on Monday. He carried 1.955 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 1.60 crore. Meanwhile, Saitual Police cornered a truck driver, Fulchand Ali Mondal, at a check gate on Wednesday. He tried to run. They found 102 grams of heroin in his soap cases.

The crackdown continued at the Myanmar border. Police arrested Lalrinchhana and Thuanmawia, both Myanmar nationals, in separate vehicle checks. They recovered 74 grams of heroin total. Finally, officers seized nearly 3,000 kg of illegal areca nuts from a tanker. The goods are now with the Customs Preventive Force.
