Aizawl: Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga officially opened the new Serkhan Police Outpost on Friday, a move designed to enhance law enforcement and foster stronger ties with local communities. The facility is set to support six villages, including Serkhan, Lungdai, and North Chaltlang, with an initial staff of five officers.
During the ceremony, Sapdanga stressed that the government prioritized the outpost despite staffing challenges. He called for high standards within the force, stating, "The government had made determined efforts to establish the facility, emphasizing the importance of transparency, discipline, and integrity in policing." The minister also highlighted the necessity of cooperation between police and local voluntary groups to combat drug trafficking and the illegal smuggling of areca nuts.
IGP H. Ramthlengliana noted that the project originated in late 2020, eventually securing approval following a formal government notification in early 2026. The inauguration featured a traditional Guard of Honour, a plaque unveiling, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by various state officials and local leaders.
Following the outpost launch, the delegation visited the Mualkhang Gas Bottling Plant to evaluate infrastructure upgrades intended to boost LPG supply across Mizoram. The modernized plant will feature a 900 metric tonne storage capacity and is expected to process 7,500 cylinders daily. Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister B. Lalchhanzova also confirmed plans to bring Pipeline Natural Gas to Aizawl and Mamit by 2027. Construction on the bottling facility is slated for completion in late July 2026.
