Aizawl: The Mizoram Health Care Society has earned ISO certification and secured two national awards for its successful management of healthcare initiatives. The organization received the Best State award for beneficiary enrolment and the Best Performing Small State title after recording the highest volume of bio-authentications for the 2025-26 fiscal year under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.
State Health Minister Lalrinpuii celebrated the achievement during an event in Aizawl. She credited the success to the dedication of officials managing the Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme, the state's primary health initiative. The minister noted that the government remains committed to expanding the program to ensure broader medical access for residents. She added, "The government would continue to strengthen and expand the scheme to improve healthcare access across the state."
Financial transparency and efficiency are central to the program's operations. Since April, the government has disbursed 22.7 crore rupees for medical claims, with 13.45 crore allocated for local treatments and 9.2 crore for care received outside the state. Ensuring the timely settlement of hospital bills remains a primary focus for the administration.
Launched in March 2025, the scheme provides up to 5 lakh rupees in annual cashless coverage at public, private, and church-run hospitals. Participation options vary by beneficiary status, with annual premiums for general users ranging from 2,500 to 10,000 rupees. Government employees receive unlimited coverage through tiered monthly contributions, while pensioners can access up to 24 lakh rupees annually. The current phase, known as MUHCS 2.0, officially commenced operations on April 1.
