Aizawl: Mizoram is quickly establishing itself as a premier destination in Northeast India, driven by enhanced infrastructure, a peaceful social climate, and increasing national attention. Chief Minister Lalduhoma confirmed that the state saw around eight lakh visitors in 2025, a figure that signals strong long-term potential. When asked if Aizawl could become the tourism capital of the Northeast, he stated, "Definitely, yes. In fact, it is already becoming one."
Lalduhoma credits the surge to improved access, specifically the railway line inaugurated by the Prime Minister last year. Beyond transport, the Chief Minister highlights Mizoram's unique social fabric, noting its status as India's first fully literate state and its reputation as the nation's ginger capital. He also pointed to the state's orderly civic culture, describing Aizawl as a silent city where drivers avoid honking and shops operate on trust. Furthermore, the state's status as a safe destination for women remains a key draw for travelers.
Future development efforts center on the town of Thenzawl, which is being promoted as a Peace City with support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This project includes international-standard golf facilities, paragliding sites, and a new Rs 36 crore elevated roadway overlooking the state's highest waterfall. Lalduhoma also expressed optimism regarding international exposure, noting that participation in the Raindance Festival in London will help raise awareness among global audiences.
