Aizawl: Mizoram officials cleared the decks for the FIFA World Cup final. The government ordered all schools, colleges, and educational institutions to close this coming Monday. The move allows students and staff to watch Argentina battle Spain for the trophy. The title clash kicks off at 12.30 am IST and stretches into the early morning.
Principal Secretary Sudhir Kumar signed the official memorandum on July 19. It confirms that all state government offices, excluding banks, will work only a half day. Doors shut for the morning but open again from 1 pm to 5 pm. The directive warns department heads to keep essential and emergency services running. As the memo states, the decision stems from the tournament's culmination and the widespread public interest in the event.
Authorities sent copies of the order to senior officials, including the Secretary to the Governor and the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. Resident commissioners in New Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Shillong, Silchar, and Mumbai also received notice. Mizoram joins Manipur, Meghalaya, and Kerala in granting time off for the match.
