Aizawl: The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee has issued a warning regarding the rising number of daily-wage labourers in the state. General Secretary Lalbiakzama argued that the increasing prevalence of landless workers could spark deep social divisions and inequality if the government fails to implement immediate, long-term policy solutions.
Speaking at a session held at Congress Bhavan in Aizawl, Lalbiakzama emphasized the urgency of the situation. "We now have quite a number of landless daily-wage labourers in Mizoram. In the long run, this will lead to severe discrimination and social inequality in our society. We need to start thinking about a solution right now," he said.
The Congress leader also criticized the ruling Zoram People’s Movement, labeling current developmental promises as impractical. Specifically, he dismissed claims regarding the achievement of state self-sufficiency within three years and large-scale power generation projects as misleading attempts to sway the youth. He urged young voters to remain skeptical of such political narratives.
Addressing the BJP, Lalbiakzama claimed the party's national agenda poses a threat to Mizoram’s cultural and religious identity. He pointed to perceived failures in national governance, including currency depreciation and repeated examination paper leaks, to argue that the BJP has failed to ensure administrative accountability. He concluded by asserting that the Congress is regaining political momentum while citing the influence of ongoing student and citizen-led protests against the BJP.
