Mizoram Congress Holds Black Day Protest Against FCRA Amendment Bill

Guwahati: The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee held a Black Day protest Tuesday outside Vanapa Hall in Aizawl. They gathered to block the BJP-led Central Government from passing the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill of 2026. The protest turned into a formal rejection of the legislation.

Party leaders passed six resolutions during the event. Senior Vice-President Lalnunmawia Chuaungo warned that the Bill complicates certification processes and limits appeal rights for funding recipients. He stated, "The proposed legislation would make it more difficult for recipients of foreign contributions to obtain certification and seek an appeal if their applications were rejected."

AICC Mizoram in-charge Chella Kumar accused the Centre of targeting NGOs and minority communities. He claimed that schools, hospitals, and churches across Mizoram face existential threats if the law moves forward. Former ministers including Zodintluanga Ralte, John Rotluangliana, and H. Rohluna joined other senior members to lead the opposition.

The Congress resolutions demand an immediate withdrawal of the Bill and an end to the harassment of Christians. They want the Mizoram Chief Minister to assemble church leaders and NGO representatives to lobby the Prime Minister. Furthermore, the party pushed for the state legislature to hold a special session to formalize its opposition. They also expect Mizoram's two Zoram People's Movement Members of Parliament to vote against the measure rather than abstaining.
