Kohima: Mima Village took home the Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyaan Award this week. Officials handed over the prize at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima on June 26. The ceremony coincided with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Wangpang Konyak, the Advisor for Social Welfare, presented the honors.
The award recognizes local efforts to end malnutrition. The program falls under Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0. This government drive pushes for Jan Bhagidari, or people’s participation, to boost the health of vulnerable residents. It forces stakeholders to work together while sparking healthy competition between villages.
Winners must meet strict operational standards to qualify for the prize. Anganwadi Centres need to run at least 21 days each month. They require 50 registered beneficiaries and 90 per cent measurement efficiency. Facilities also face infrastructure mandates. Specifically, 80 per cent of centers must have drinking water and 70 per cent must have working toilets.
The national incentive scheme rewards top performers. The government grants Rs. 1 lakh to each of the top 1,000 qualifying Gram Panchayats. Officials hope the cash motivates local leaders to "take proactive measures to eradicate malnutrition in their respective areas."
