Imphal: Suspected militants destroyed a Bailey bridge in Manipur on July 22. They used improvised explosive devices to level the structure. The blast occurred at 9.30 am over the Namban Lok River. The bridge sat between Phange and Chatric villages in the Kamjong district. It was the only road link connecting Chatric and surrounding villages to the district headquarters.
The attackers did not stop at the bridge. They torched a Bolero pick-up truck owned by the Telecom Department. The vehicle was parked on the riverbank and burned until it was gutted. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the carnage yet. Authorities believe the strike aimed to block transit and spread fear among the locals.
Officials viewed the violence as a direct challenge to the region. One official said the incident was a "serious threat to public safety and state security." Investigators believe the explosives were used to intentionally wreck public infrastructure and silence communication lines.
Police filed a suo motu case to track down the perpetrators. The investigation is now split between the CSD Police Station and the Chandel Police Station. Officers are currently working to identify the unidentified miscreants responsible for the chaos.
