Meriema Youth Group to Block Government Vehicles Over Road Repairs

Kohima: The Meriema Village Youth Organisation plans to stop government vehicles from entering the village starting July 1. This blockade comes after officials ignored repeated requests to fix the crumbling stretch of National Highway-2. The organization confirmed the move in a letter sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima.

Youth leaders filed formal complaints with the Chief Engineer of the PWD National Highways wing on March 23 and again on June 12. They claim the government has done nothing to address the dangerous road conditions. The group stated that the decision was made "to safeguard the interests of the public."

The ban covers all government-registered transport. However, emergency services will get a pass. Police cruisers, paramilitary vehicles, and ambulances can still travel through the village. The organization is now waiting for the PWD to start roadwork before they lift the restriction.
