Meghalaya Police Issue Nationwide Alert for Fugitive Accused of Sexual Exploitation

Shillong: East Khasi Hills police have launched a nationwide manhunt for a Shillong college student accused of raping a minor and exploiting multiple women. The suspect went into hiding after allegations of blackmail and intimidation surfaced online around July 6. The posts claim he threatened victims with private recordings to keep them silent, with one victim allegedly becoming pregnant. Public outcry hit the roof.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the department registered an FIR and recorded a statement from the initial complainant. A special team is currently working to track the suspect down. Police initially issued a lookout notice for Mizoram before expanding the alert to every state in the country.

Rumors suggested the man fled to Aizawl, but local authorities cleared that up. Police coordinated with their counterparts in Aizawl to search the man's home, but he was not there. Syiem stressed that the claims floating online about eight total victims remain unverified and need formal statements to confirm.

Officers have spoken to additional potential victims over the phone and encouraged them to file formal complaints. "The victim’s statement has been recorded, and we have come to know that there may be other victims. They will also be examined in due course," Syiem said. Investigators plan to file a charge sheet once they catch the suspect and collect enough hard evidence.
