Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma wants tourist facilitation centers finished fast. Work is moving forward. The government aims to activate these hubs as soon as possible to boost state infrastructure.
Officials are also tightening the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act of 2016. Registration is already happening at multiple sites. Rangbah Shnongs play a lead role in this expansion. The state plans to use new technology to bolster the Act, but coverage remains a hurdle. Meghalaya houses over 6,500 villages. Equipping each location with rooms, laptops, and staff is a heavy lift.
Sangma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the 2020 version of the safety laws. “We are hopeful that we will take the matter forward and get it implemented. There are some more issues which need to be resolved,” the Chief Minister said on Wednesday.
The Cabinet also greenlit changes to the 2020 rules for identifying and registering migrant workers. These updates clarify enforcement, penalties, and implementation procedures. Confusion over these rules forced the state to act. The amendments now clearly define which officers have the power to inspect laborers and dictate consequences for failing to register.
