Shillong: Meghalaya will hold its five-day Autumn Session from August 24 to August 28. The Business Advisory Committee locked in the dates on July 31. The schedule includes three days for government business and two days for private members to raise bills, motions, and resolutions. Members will meet in Shillong.
Speaker Thomas A. Sangma promises to hear everyone. He acknowledges concerns about the short calendar. "I will try my best to accommodate all the members concerned and ensure that every member gets an opportunity to express their concerns on the floor of the House," Sangma said after the meeting.
The session starts August 24 with report filings, new bills, and obituary references. It also includes the presentation of Supplementary Demands for Grants and the Supplementary Appropriation for 2026-27. August 25 and August 27 are reserved for private business. Voting on grants happens August 26 and August 28. The final day covers the passage of the Meghalaya Appropriation (No. III) Bill, 2026, and potential adjournment sine die.
The planning session included Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Leader of the Opposition Mukul M. Sangma, Opposition Chief Whip Charles Pyngrope, and Assembly Secretary Malthus S. Sangma. All parties approved the plan.
