Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh cut the ribbon on a new Ima Market and two bridges in the Andro Assembly Constituency on July 27. The project spans the Thoubal River, specifically at Khungdongbam Mapa, labeled MN04115, and Wangkhem Siphai Leikai, labeled MN04116. Andro MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar joined the Chief Minister for the ceremony.
Singh promised 10 crore rupees to fix and build inter-village roads. He also confirmed plans for a new Municipal Council office. This marked his second visit to the region since taking his post. He praised the area for its deep historical roots and unique natural fire phenomenon that pulls in researchers from all over.
Development hit a snag during the ongoing ethnic strife. Singh noted that the state has suffered for nearly three years. He appealed to both hill and valley residents to bury the hatchet and find common ground. "I hope to revive the spirit of unity that existed before May 3, 2023," the Chief Minister said.
Local groups and youth clubs crowded the event with lists of demands. They want better roads, sturdy retaining walls, and more primary school teachers. The government remains focused on mixing heritage preservation with urgent building projects.
