Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh wants unity. He told a BJP conference in Lilong on July 18 that restoring trust remains his top priority. The state has suffered three years of ethnic violence. Some groups are blocking his path. He claims vested interests are actively working to derail government peace initiatives.

Khemchand Singh addressed the crowd in Thoubal district. It is the state’s only Muslim-majority constituency. The Chief Minister pointed to his work in Jiribam. He flew there by helicopter to meet displaced families from Meitei and Hmar communities. Later, he traveled by road to meet members of the Kuki, Hmar, Paite, Meitei, Meitei Muslim, and Rongmei Naga groups. He said about 400 people shared a meal there. It was a step toward harmony.

Progress remains fragile. A bomb blast in Bishnupur killed two children at the Tronglaobi site. This set the mission back. The Chief Minister remains defiant against those who thrive on chaos. “My main aim after becoming Chief Minister is to unite the people of Manipur after three years of ethnic violence,” he said.

He warned the instigators. “God will not forgive them,” Singh stated. He dismissed personal safety concerns. Death comes for everyone eventually. He will keep visiting sensitive districts to engage residents. Spokesperson Thokchom Radheshyam confirmed the Chief Minister has visited Ukhrul, Senapati, and Kangpokpi to push for order.

BJP workers must help. Many party leaders attended the event, including Paonam Brojen Singh, Tongbram Robindro Singh, L. Rameshwor Meitei, Khwairakpam Raghumani Singh, S. Premchandra Singh, and former MLA Y. Antas Khan. The group also honored Mohammed Alimuddin. He was the state's first Chief Minister in 1972 and a noted champion of communal peace.
