Shillong: The Synjuk Nongialam Shnong ka Ri Mooliang threw its weight behind the Meghalaya government on Wednesday. They back the plan to build the permanent Ri Mooliang C&RD Block headquarters at Tynghor village. A delegation met with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to confirm the decision. Tensions flared after some locals demanded the office stay in Nonglang.
Nonglang only hosts the block in a temporary facility. The government scouted three sites before choosing Tynghor. They looked at Mawprah, Nonglang, and Tynghor. Officials picked the latter for its central connectivity. Association spokesperson Distarborlin Wanniang argued that a majority of residents across the three Himas support this move. He noted, "The association has no objection to shifting the office from Nonglang, as that arrangement was only temporary."
Langpih came up during the talks. It sits on the border. Its remote location makes it a poor choice for administrative operations. The group walked away satisfied with the government's explanation. They now fully back the Tynghor location.
