Shillong: Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Methodius Dkhar ordered tighter oversight of essential commodity prices on Tuesday. He spoke at a workshop in Shillong to address spiking costs. The minister wants officials to track 41 different items across the state. Accurate data keeps markets fair. The government needs this info to catch trends early and stop price gouging.
Dkhar told staff at Price Monitoring Centres to prioritize fast reporting. He knows the job gets tough in remote districts. Communication and connectivity issues often create major roadblocks. He wants those problems solved now. "Regular and accurate monitoring was crucial for the government to track price trends and take appropriate measures, whenever necessary," Dkhar said.
Representatives from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution joined the meeting to hear about field-level hurdles. Radhika Goyal and Sandeep Kumar presented the technical requirements for the system. They spent the day digging into existing reporting mechanisms. The state aims to stop hoarding and keep costs down for vulnerable families.
