Kohima: Longleng civil society groups are fed up. They want the battered Changtongya-Longleng two-lane road fixed now. A coalition of local organizations issued a stern ultimatum on Monday demanding a full status report on the stalled construction project within seven days.
The Phom Students Conference and the Phom Peoples Council met on June 29 to address the decay. YB Angam Phom, president of the council, noted that the crumbling road creates constant misery for local commuters. The neglect chokes transport, kills economic growth, and halts the district progress.
The groups claim they sent multiple pleas to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, the district administration, and the contractors. Nobody listened. Nothing changed. Now the clock is ticking for a formal report detailing why work stopped and when crews will finish the job.
The organizations expect clear answers on the current state of the road and a firm timeline for future maintenance. They warned that if the authorities ignore this week-long deadline, the groups will take matters into their own hands. If officials fail to act, the groups stated they will hold the administration "solely responsible" for any future course of action.
